i'm having one tomorrow morning. Everyone I talk to says it is painful, even the doctor. One person, however, told me that there is this twylight drug I could request to numb me; however, I want to here from any of you if you had it done. What was your experience like? Did you feel like you wanted to die? I'm so nervous!
i've never had one myself, but I've heard they are painful. ask the doctor to warn you before inserting the needle.
I've had several of them. Make sure you get a real doctor and not med students or interns because they don't know what they're doing! Second, you can get numbed first and sometimes they might even give you IV drugs to help. Third, you can't move after the procedure for at least 12 hours to prevent bleeding and the risk of severe migrain headaches. Yes, you will be a bit sore for a while.
Chastity
Well, i got it today in the doctor's office. After that, I got up and moved around. i had to in order to go home. The doctor said that I did not have to stay in one place that long because there is no evidence that such a thing works. I guess things have changed. She said I could not work for several hours though which is torture to me because I'm a workaholic.
She is a very seasoned neurologist. She did give me numbing medicine in the form of a shot, and it helped so much. While it did hurt, it would have been much worse without that numbing medicine.
I've never had a spinal tap, nor do I want one. An epidural was scary enough. I had to have it for my C-section when I had my son. They gave me numbing medicine for it, but it still mademe jump when they inserted the catheter tube thing.
Oh, i've never had an epidural yet, but I'm guessing that a spinal tap would be much worse. Not to mention, the after effects are horrible!
I'd be scared of getting an epidural though. i more than likely won't because I want to have a home birth.
